Kehoe Beach - 1.2 Miles Round-Trip

Kehoe Beach is located .6 miles from Pierce Point Road in Point Reyes National Seashore. It spans miles of pristine coastline framed by steep bluffs and lengthy sand dunes. The quick hike in passes through a biologically rich valley that sees prolific spring blooms. Inland hills above drain into a coastal thatch grass marsh that supports a wide range of plants and wildlife.

Note that dogs are allowed on a 6' leash north of where the trail meets the beach. Dogs are not permitted south of this point, as this area is protected habitat for the endangered snowy plover:

The trail glides down the north side of a wide marsh-valley, passes through an old wooden gate and continues on a rolling dune-like path to the beach.

Densely vegetated hillsides above hide deer, elk, quail, rabbit and coyote; the marshland beside you deters mammals but attracts many birds. In the spring bush lupine envelops the area with eye-popping pastels.

The trail crests a steep dune (.55 miles) and dips to Kehoe Beach (.6 miles). Sea stacks are located just north of this entry point, and sand dunes stretch to the south. Travel is restricted in this fragile ecosystem, however visitors may enjoy them from a close distance on the beach.
