Muir Woods: Muir Woods Main Loop Trail
San Francisco: Marin Headlands - Mt Tamalpais - Point Reyes
Muir Woods is but a remnant of the ancient coast redwood forests that blanketed Northern California coastal valleys before the 1800s. The Main Loop Trail is a relatively short and easy excursion for anyone. Leaving from the Muir Woods entrance plaza, the wide flat trail immediately becomes immersed in an old growth coastal redwood forest. California coast redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) are the world’s tallest living organisms and there are few better showcases than Muir Woods National Monument.
